Data Security

In simple terms, data security is the practice of keeping information secure from corruption and unauthorised access. Data security is an important area of concern for every business owner and with digital technology fast becoming a part life, it is all the more crucial to keep data protected. Data can be secured using various hardware and software technologies. Some common tools are antivirus, encryption, firewalls, two-factor authentication, software patches, updates, data loss prevention, etc.

Ensure data transfers through various exit points such as e-mails or cloud solutions do not contain confidential information.

Some key points to consider:

  • Have a policy of strong password and regularly change it
  • Put a strong Firewall in the network
  • Install anti virus protection
  • Update regularly
  • Put strong policies to safe guard your laptops
  • Secure your mobile phones
  • Take back up on a regular basis
  • Implement a reputed monitoring tool in your network
  • Be careful with email, web browsing habits
  • Educate users users

It is practically impossible to learn and understand everything about information technology but, basic understanding or training on Cyber Security or information security or data security… they all mean, by the way, must be made common to all. It is crucial for all of us to stay abreast with newer technologies, understand the risks involved and some basic idea about the way to mitigate them… at least on a surface level.

Security Coaching for Executives and Board Members

How much time and attention is spent discussing Cyber - Security and how much has the Boards overall objective changed in the Digital Era? This is a critical question which mostly goes unanswered.

Have you understood the defense system against potential breaches?

Cybersecurity is the foundation of digital business and innovation. The prominence of the cybersecurity issue suggests that it should become embedded in the corporate culture. Corporations can’t function optimally without having healthy electronic networks that keep data secure, internally and externally.

The failure to manage your digital risks is likely to sabotage your digital business and expose your organisation to potential impacts well beyond a simple opportunity loss.

The Board does not manage cyber security risks or any other risks; instead, the board oversees the corporate systems that ensure that the management is doing so effectively. The board has “Risk - Oversight “ roles and responsibility. This perhaps has been one the most important agenda of the Board Members.
